YouTube Update for K-8 Students

Starting September 25, 2026: Google Workspace is changing their terms of service for K-8 students and YouTube access. Students will no longer be able to watch videos on the YouTube website. Teachers can, however, continue to provide YouTube videos for students to view in four ways:

  1. Insert/embed videos directly into Google Slides presentations.
  2. Insert/embed videos directly into Google Sites webpages.
  3. Attach videos in Google Classroom assignments/materials.
  4. Insert/embed videos in Seesaw activities for grades K-1.

Note: Simply inserting a hyperlink in a Google Doc or other resource will not work for K-8 students. Google recommends the four options above.

Apple Classroom for K-1 iPads

Each K-1 homeroom class has a shared set of iPads (2 students per device). One iPad in each set is identified as a "teacher" device and includes the Apple Classroom app. K-1 teachers can use Apple Classroom to launch a specific app on their student iPads, lock the screens, mute the volume on each device, and prevent students from exiting the app. To learn more, review the TIP Sheet or watch the video tutorial.

Apple Classroom for K-1 iPads

Guest post by Elizabeth Schoenecker, Instructional Tech Team, RS Rep.

If you've ever used Guided Access on your students' iPads, you've wanted control over the apps that they are using. It's time to try Apple Classroom! This is a setting that is already set up on classroom iPads in K-1. Using this app on your teacher iPad, you can open an app and lock a student into it, open the same app for all students, and lock the iPad temporarily so students can focus on your directions. You can also set up groups to send different apps to different centers. Watch this video to see more. (The first part of Classroom set-up is already done for you. Ask your building tech if it is not ready for you.)
