Policy Changes: Google frequently updates its policies to strengthen security and safeguard the privacy of its users. Beginning on Monday, October 23, 2023, schools are required to designate third-party apps or websites offering the Sign-in with Google button as either "trusted" or "blocked." By default, student access to sign-in services will be restricted unless an IT administrator sets up the app/website as trusted.
How will this affect you and your students? For the most part, this change will not disrupt your experience or that of your students. The NPAS Technology Department has already pre-configured our most commonly used apps/websites. For instance, students can continue using the sign-in button to access popular classroom resources like IXL, Kahoot!, Quizizz, and more. Nevertheless, they will no longer be able to sign in to TikTok on their phones using their ISD721 Google accounts.
What if students encounter issues signing in to a classroom resource? It's possible that some apps/websites have not yet been configured. In such cases, Google will automatically restrict student sign-in access. Please contact me if your students are blocked or denied from signing in to a tool with the Google button.
